TIME FOR SOME LONG COURSE RACING

sunday-runday-elwood

It’s race week for many of our long course athletes, with huge numbers heading down to G-Town for the half ironman distance. They will also be joined by many of our athletes who are entering in teams, not to mention the scores of supporters we’ll have down in Geelong for race day...whoop whoop... it’s time to get excited!!

The weather looks great (min 12 max 28 light north-easterly winds) and we can’t wait to get down there and cheer them on.  The TA Taj will be set up in pride of place along Eastern Beach, with a race recon taking place Saturday morning.  Would be great to see as many people as possible joining us and supporting the yellow and blue army.  Check out the link below to see who’s racing and to lock their race numbers in your trackers.

And take some time to read the heartfelt tribute by James Tyler to his sister, who will be taking on Geelong 70.3 this weekend in her loving memory.  You can show your support for this great man - please read!

Across the other side of Australia, we have a committed bunch of swimmers taking on the Rottnest Channel Swim.  Huge wishes to Pammy, Fik and Simon who are taking on this massive challenge.

You've no doubt you’ve seen the Grand Prix making itself at home around Albert Park Lake.   Things look like they are certainly ramping up, so we’ve included the full schedule of road closures, so you can plan accordingly.

And last but not least, the weekend sessions.  It's important to note the change to Saturday and Sunday morning sessions, with most of the coaching staff heading down to Geelong.  Make sure you read up and if ANYTHING is unclear….just ask!

LET'S GET READY TO RACE

Ironman-70.3-Geelong-Cover
Ironman Geelong 70.3

Geelong is always a brilliant event and we are expecting no different this year!  We have over 30 athletes heading down to G-town to take on this course, and it would be great to see just as many supporters!!!

The TA Taj will be in pride of place, along Eastern Beach, with awesome access to the bike and run course.  We'll have an esky with ice, so feel free to bring the snacks, the drinks, the picnic rugs and make a day of it!

Check out the link below to see who is racing and lock their numbers in your trackers to stay up to date with their progress throughout the day.

GOOD LUCK TEAM!

LET'S SUPPORT OUR MATE

Jimmy's Tribute To His Sister, Sarah

Most of you will know, that our great mate and current JC Award recipient, Jimmy Tyler, has suffered yet another heartbreaking tragedy.  He recently lost his beautiful sister to a rare degenerative brain disease, which took her life in just a few short months.

There is no treatment, no known cause, and no cure. It is always fatal, and most people die within 3-6 months. Sarah had just 9 weeks from initial diagnosis.

Jimmy is racing Geelong 70.3 this weekend in spirit, in tribute and in memory of his sister, Sarah.

I’ll be wearing orange (the charity’s colour) to raise awareness for the disease and hopefully raise a few dollars for the CJD Support Group Network.

Here's how you can help Jimmy:
* read all about this disease and his tribute
* donate to his chartiy fundraising page
* wear an orange armband this weekend

We will have orange tape at the TA Taj all weekend and encourage everyone to get along and show your support.

SWIM CHALLENGE

Let's Get Ready to Rotto

Highly regarded worldwide as one of Western Australia’s most iconic events, the South32 Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island. Whether competing as a solo, duo or team, the Rottnest Channel Swim is a ‘team’ event with all swimmers surrounded by a support network of paddlers, boat skippers and crew. The event is Rottnest Island’s biggest day attracting swimmers and spectators from around Australia and the world.

Pam, Simon and Fik have been training hard and qualifying for this event for the past 6 months!  It has been a summer of swimming without wetsuits and building their strength and endurance to tackle this beast.

We wish them all the very best in their challenge, taking place this Saturday!  Hit the link to read all about the race prep.

Road Closures at Albert Park Lake

ICYMI - the set up for the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix commenced in early January and as the event nears (12-15 March 2020), the number of cars, trucks and infrastructure increases in the Albert Park Lake area. This, as well as the road closures listed below, impacts a number of our training sessions and general access to the area.

We will keep you up to date each week with detailed information for particular sessions but at this stage, the main focus is for those who attend Thursday morning hot laps. Please take extra care at this session the road set up may have changed since the week prior or there may be additional obstacles in the way, there can be water on the road due to extra watering (they have to make Melbourne look good with nice green grass...of course!) and there may be temporary stops or navigation required around vehicles entering, exiting and stopping on the road.

We have also included the road closure information below, please be mindful that the road has already commenced closures from 7am when choosing where to park before a session!

Mount Beauty Accommodation Offer

We were recently contacted by the Mount Beauty Motor Inn with an offer for our athletes.  As you know, we have had a close affiliation with that part of Victoria, after hosting our Falls Creek training camp for several years.

Although Mount Beauty and surrounds were untouched by the recent fires, local traders were decimated in January as caution prevailed and everyone stayed away. As a result, traders are doing their best to return activity to the area.

Situated at the base of Falls Creek, Mount Beauty and the Kiewa Valley are unparalleled when it comes to cycling. Head up Falls or ride through the valley if you like it quiet, or head over Tawonga Gap to Bright if you’d like to mix with the crowds. We are located 50m from the Mount Beauty main street, and 400m from the Big Hill Mountain Bike Park.

We are offering all members double/twin rooms for $100 per night and family rooms for $140 per night throughout Autumn. Everyone is welcome and please contact Bec Johns on (03) 5754 4145 or email the link below to make a reservation.
We’d love to have you stay with us and help get the town back on its feet!
