CLOSER THAN YESTERDAY

Tri-Alliance-Open-Water-Swim-Coaching

We've made it through 6 weeks of lockdown and we're already in week 3 of Stage 4...wow, a few weeks ago it felt like we'd never start ticking off time and yet here we are! Well done us. The most exciting bit, of course, is that we are less than 2 weeks away from Spring! No doubt you will have seen or smelt some flowers, heard the birds or some other sign of Spring in your most recent outdoors time!

As mentioned last week and the week before, this is not the time to be breaking PBs or pushing yourself beyond your limits. We will be back in a place where that's what we're aiming for soon enough but in the mean time, it's important to keep active for your mental and physical health, to make the most of your hour of outside time and to keep connected with family and friends...and yep, you recall correctly, the best way to do this is at our Go Virtual sessions! This is particularly important given we are currently very limited to the time we can spend exercising outside, one hour per day to be exact. Read on below for more info about time spent outside.

Last week we ticked off another run time trial, huge congratulations to those of you who inspired themselves to get out the door and get it done without the usual added bonus motivation of coaches and training buddies. Don't forget to send through your results to your coach...yep, you guessed it, read on for details.

We also bring to you this week, another Meet the TA Family, a savoury recipe to try, and an article from Training Peaks to help us in riding the coronacoaster!

As always, don’t forget to reach out if you need some support or someone to connect to during this time. Likewise, don't forget to check in with the people you care about, make sure they’re ok and let them know life’s just not quite the same without sharing a lane at the pool, riding or running with them! Supporting each other no matter what is the TA way, and the Tri-Alliance family is all stronger for it.

Training Reminders

ICYMI, we are in the depths of Stage 4 Restrictions - week 3 to be specific! We hope your virtual training continues to keep you happy, healthy, motivated and that you are using, not abusing, your 1 hour of outside time. Don't forget that currently, we are permitted to exercise outside our home with only one other person for no more than one hour and within a 5km radius of your home, and you are not permitted to drive to a location to exercise.

This means that athletes are required to use their discretion in following the program. Whilst it is ingrained in most triathletes to tick off every single session, down to the nearest kilometre, this might not be possible currently nor be wise! If you have a programmed session that cannot be completed outdoors in 60mins, you need to either:
1. Complete the remaining time/distance indoors or within your property (backyard, balcony etc)
2. Split the session across consecutive days
or
3. Remember that we are living through a pandemic and that it's more important to keep moving for mental and physical well-being than to be going out and chasing PBs or long rides or runs. You will have read last week that it may even be detrimental to your health and well-being to be "flogging yourself".
Follow the link below for more details on exercise guidelines and, remember that coaches are available and more than happy to talk you through flexible options if you need!

Our Go Virtual timetable is as below and all sessions can be accessed via the Go Virtual link in your program.

Athlete Time Trial Results

We have been time trialling for a few months now, and we hope you have been keeping a record and sharing with your coach...if you haven't been, read on! This helps you to not only stay accountable, but to track your progress, reset goals and align your future training plans to reach your desired targets.

The best (and only) way we can effectively collate this for you is for you to send the data to us in a workable format.

After completing a run or swim time trial or an FTP test, please download your .csv file from Garmin Connect and email this through to your coach.

Steps to getting your data:

  • Log in to Garmin Connect
  • Select All Activities
  • Go into specific session
  • Click settings cog
  • Select export splits to CSV
  • Save and rename file to include your name, date and activity type

Keep these in a safe location and share with your coach if and when needed, via email.
