LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

Wowee…what a weekend!  We knew it was coming at some point, but not only has the easing of Lockdown #6 come sooner than we thought, but it is also bringing more freedoms than we thought.  Hallelujah!  Huge thanks have to go to everyone who has rolled up their sleeve and received the jab.  Without you all contributing to the greater plan (and protecting yourself at the same time) this would not have been possible.  Bring on the 80% DD mark next!

So, amongst all our excitement, I guess you really want to know, what does this mean for me? Well, it means we’re back to group sessions!  Basically, so long as you are double-dosed, you can join us for Saturday long rides or combo, Sunday combo, swimming (pool or bay), Tuesday morning runs and Hot Laps!  We’ll continue hosting our Tuesday night wind trainer sessions online, so keep using the links in your programs.  I guess the only bad news is that the flexibility sessions will be over to you now to complete in your time.  And we won't be running trivia this Friday, as we are sure there will be much better things you could be doing with your first night of freedom!

A must at the beginning of every session, is that every athlete will need to sign in using the QR code.  This will bring up the Service Victoria app and allow you to show the coach your digital vaccination certificate.  We will continue using this platform, whilst we update our software, at which time we will let you know that your status can be updated via your dashboard.  The QR code is embedded in all the sessions on the timetable, is in this NL and there will be a hardcopy at sessions.  HOT Tip: at your first session, save the Tri-Alliance location to your favourite check-ins in the Service Victoria app.  This will mean it’s a simple one-click at every session thereafter!

Please read even more details below, including the announcement by ELSC that all members/visitors will need to be fully vaccinated.  The updated roadmap has been linked and there is also an updated timetable.  Whilst we are still waiting for even more information to be communicated by government agencies, I have included all we do know at the moment.  We will continue to update you all as we navigate our way through this new territory.  And whilst we know the TA Family is great at supporting one another, especially as we take these first steps together, please get in touch with us if you have any concerns, if you feel I have overlooked anything, or if you have seen/received contrary information.  When we support each other, we support the team.

And finally, just to put all your minds at ease…there has been no change to the Roadmap Out of Activewear guide.  Phew!  We can carry on and wear activewear!

Getting Back Together - Melb's Roadmap
Yesterday it was confirmed.  A return to community sport, sooner than we thought!  Well done to everyone who contributed to this acceleration by rolling up your sleeve and getting vaccinated.

Whilst we are still waiting for more updated information to be communicated from government agencies, we do know the following still relates to us:

* From 22 Oct, community sport permitted outdoors only for training.
Fully vaccinated.
Minimum numbers (50 cap, DQ4).
Outdoor swimming pools reopened.
Changing rooms closed.

* From 80% DD, community sport permitted indoors
and outdoors with minimum numbers.
Fully vaccinated.
Indoors 150 with DQ4 cap
Outdoors 500 with DQ2 cap.
Indoor and outdoor pools opened.

We also know that MSAC and ELSC both have mandatory vaccination requirements, so you will need to adhere to this if training at these facilities.

We are planning to return to training with our long ride departing Elwood and combo session on the foreshore on Saturday morning, followed by the long swim/run session on Sunday morning.  We will update you with news from MSAC squad swimming as soon as we can, but plan to be back in the water (bay or pool) from next Monday.

Whilst we are in the process of updating our software with access for you to confirm your vaccination status, our Service Victoria QR code will be at every session.  It will be a must for all athletes to scan this at the beginning of the session and show the coach your digital certificate.

**Little hint - at your first session, save Tri-Alliance under your favourite check-ins on your app to save time!

If you would like to discuss any of the above further, please feel free to reach out to us. We are navigating our way through this as information comes to hand and are always happy to chat if you need to.  There's also a link to the updated roadmap for your information.

Membership Renewal & Registration
We have a long-standing partnership with Elwood Life Saving Club and always look to support the fantastic work they do for the community, both local and triathlon.  That is why we encourage all our athletes to become ELSC members.

** UPDATED ADVICE from ELSC:
LSV has advised that to comply with the latest Victorian Government roadmap, members, employees, industry and community partners, contractors and visitors need to be fully vaccinated from 26 October 2021 to be able to:
* attend an LSV or club facility
* deliver an LSV or club service in person
* participate in an LSV or club activity in person

This applies to all members, excluding those under 12 years of age, unless you have a valid medical exemption.

We respect our members right to choose whether to be vaccinated or not, but unfortunately if you choose not to be vaccinated, you will not be able to participate under the current health orders.  However, we would still welcome and hope that members who do not wish to be vaccinated will retain their membership on the basis that they can return to club activities should the vaccination mandate be removed in the future.  If you have already paid your membership fees and no longer wish to join for this season, please send us an email to [email protected] to request a refund.

Cortisone (Glucocorticoid)
Injection Changes

"Sport Integrity Australia have advised Triathlon Australia that from the 1st of January 2022, all Glucocorticoid (GC), “cortisone”, injections will be prohibited in-competition. This is a new ruling, making their classification consistent with oral GC preparations. GC injections are permitted out of competition, however, most commonly used GCs have a wash-out (clearance from the body) period of between three and five days while some types of GCs can stay in a person’s system for up to 60 days for intra-muscular injection. This means that some injections given before competition can be detected in an in-competition sample."

Please read the Athlete Flyer linked below to make sure you are aware of these changes by Sport Integrity Australia (formerly ASADA).
