KEEP WORKING ON YOUR BUILD

TA End of Season Party πŸ’ƒπŸ»
Although a few had to hide away into isolation, it was so great seeing everyone in something different from lycra and letting our hair down! Our coaches are feeling better and will be back on deck throughout the week. They are looking forward to seeing your friendly faces again.

This week we introduce two more run sessions, with Coach Greg.
A reminder, if you are unsure about a session to check our Calendar.

Great Ocean Road Running Festival
β€œ5/91 in my age category - bring on Cairns” – Juliet Cooper
And the events continue to roll in with great weather and lots of athletes doing what they love to do. Congratulations to our athletes who competed over the weekend. Looks like there were a few Pb’s in there…

6km Run – Narelle Hayes – 00:52:48

14km Run – Monty Cooper – 1:05:26

14km Run – Chloe Turner – 01:16:57

23km Half Marathon – Juliet Cooper – 1:59:51

This week we continue to work on our Technique/Base Training, focusing on our skills in all forms of triathlon and breaking down the components of your swim stroke, riding technique and run technique.  Another reminder that technique at the start of a training season is extremely important and will have a direct impact on your training and more importantly – racing, over the coming season. Those who start now during Phase 1, will come out stronger and ready to keep on building to the next phases.  And be sure to check out our article, Why do I have to time trial?, to be prepared for what's ahead.

We look forward to seeing more of you at sessions!

TIME TRIALLING
FTP-Test
You Can't Manage What You Don't Measure

Time trials are an important part of our training structure as they allow you (and us!) to monitor your progress over certain training periods to ensure you continue to develop and improve. It’s not just about the time, as conditions can vary over the period of time that we conduct our time trials, however, how you perform and how you recover are strong indications of how you are progressing.

Over the winter months and leading into the main race season, particularly for Sprint, Olympic and Half Ironman racing we concentrate on technique, strength and endurance. Time trials give you an indication of how your strength training is progressing and you should expect to see consistency over time or some improvement. For some of you there will be major gains, for others there will be some minor improvements, and for others you may even go a little slower. You cannot expect to PB every time you time trial, however, you should expect to be around a similar time that you have recorded previously.

Remember, these phases of our training are all about building your expertise, strength, endurance and technique, to get you to the start line where you really do want to swim, bike or run your PB. It’s no good being a star on the training track and then leaving it all behind come race day!

In addition to training for all three facets of triathlon, athletes will also undergo the rigours of sweat testing, time trials, Vo2 max as well as other high-end testing to help you achieve your fitness goals.
