What. A. Weekend.
We don’t know if we’re exhausted or incredibly inspired and motivated but the mix of adrenaline and endorphins has left us reeling in good vibes!
The weekend started off with sunshine, blue skies and smiles as our first Try the Tri of the 2019/20 season kicked off. This lot is one to watch with their enthusiasm to jump in the chilly bay far surpassing that of Coach Gaz...oh wait, that’s not hard! Jokes aside, you’ll start to see TTT #1 at your sessions as they join us on Tuesdays for running and wind trainer and at Elwood for our Thursday and Saturday sessions, so please share your friendly smile with one or many as they are enveloped in our TA family.
Then the time came...the moment that Trent and Sammy had been preparing themselves for longer than we can possibly imagine, it was time for KONA! The 2019 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii is a race like no other and both Trent and Sammy did themselves proud battling the elements with a finishing time of 9:48:10 for Trent and 11:42:48 for Sammy. Congratulations to you both, we know just how many people within TA and the broader tri community were glued to their phones and computer screens all day tracking you and cheering from afar, not to mention the on the ground support from family and friends! We are all super proud and hope that you are enjoying some island time now with plenty of well-deserved rest and celebration! Congratulations!
Just as Trent and Sammy were coming out of the swim in Kona, back home thousands took to the pavement for the Melbourne Marathon. A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS goes to the one and only Super Mario for smashing out a sub-3 hour marathon! Mario has worked away at his goal with Head Coach Ollie, he followed the program and with determination and consistency, he did it! Boom. Special congrats also go to the marathon first timers, and shout out to those who completed the half marathon and 10km events - including a few incredible PBs! Well done all!
Meanwhile, across the river in Richmond, Lindsey Berne came away with the win in her age group at the 2019 Duathlon State Championships! Congratulations, we look forward to seeing you back at training as you prepare for the 2XU Triathlon Series this season!
And the final cheering duty of the day on Sunday was for Neda taking on the Chicago Marathon. Neda 'the-quiet-achiever' Jamshidi, who has worked away with Head Coach Ollie (and training buddies Mario and Enrique) proved on Sunday that patience in following the program works with a 23 minute PB, wow! Congratulations Neda!
This week, we celebrate Lakeside Sports Medicine moving into their spiffy new rooms at MSAC, remind everyone it’s time to renew our Elwood Life Saving Club memberships (your golden ticket to hot showers and of course supporting the awesome work that ELSC do), another stellar clinic on offer from Weekesy and training location updates...read on!
