ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND

race-day-crew

What a weekend!  It had it all, and you gave it your all.  Super impressed with the efforts that were on display in St Kilda yesterday.  At the end of the day, you have to be satisfied that when you look yourself in the mirror, you can honestly say you did your best.  That’s what counts!

We need to thank everyone who stayed and helped/supported the team over the weekend.  Saturday was hectic (even for us) with Tips and Tricks at the earlier time of 10:30am.  But we confidently got through the morning with Les steering the ship and all of us following his directions.  Many hands made things happen over the weekend, (including tent put up, water collection, whomping, carrying, cleaning, Kid’s Tri volunteering, TTT support, coffee runs, BBQ duties, Oscar entertaining, trailer packing, etc) so if this was you – THANK YOU!  Truly a team effort!

Be sure to read all the results from Race 3 of the 2XU series below.  We know the depth of the field was strong this weekend, with the race also doubling as the Age Group Australian Sprint Championship.  There were many interstaters who had made the trip to St Kilda to compete.  So, keep that in mind when you are reflecting on your results.

Speaking of results, Aurelie headed down to tackle Two Bays Trail run.  She completed the 28kms from Dromana to Cape Schank in a time of 3:10:10. Well done, Missy.  You keep going from strength to strength!

No doubt you would have seen our email last Friday, calling for Ambassador votes.  In case you missed it, we’ve included the link below and a reminder that voting will be open until 5pm this Friday.  We want to thank all those who nominated and provided such glowing references of our athletes.  We also want to thank those who accepted the nomination to be included in voting.  And we completely understand those who were unable to accept this year.  We know that we have placed the decision making in good hands and are looking forward to announcing the Ambassadors next week.

And finally, another reason to get excited. Tri-Alliance is officially partnering up with PILLAR to connect our athletes with the very best in professional recovery products.  To kick things off, we have an exclusive athlete webinar for all of you with PILLAR'S performance dietician, Pip Taylor. A former professional triathlete and acclaimed author, Pip combines her clinical expertise with her lived experience as an elite athlete.  She will be with us next Wednesday night, for a full hour of learning, so get on board to hear how you can make the most of optimal recovery.  As a bonus for everyone who attends, a sample pack for you to take home and try!!!!  Going forward, all our Annual members will benefit from an exclusive discount of 20% off all PILLAR products (#surroundyourselfwiththerightpeople).

I am looking forward to another week of coaching duties, so no doubt I will be seeing you soon!  As always, reach out to us if you need anything (or if I’ve accidentally missed any results!).

Squad Results

I mean we shouldn’t be surprised, but can you really believe we went from smoking hot and quite still conditions on Saturday, to cool/cold and windy conditions Sunday morning for race day!?!?!  Crazy!  But we’re all in it together at that point, so it evens out the field and shows you who really does train in all weather to prepare themselves for race day. Once again it was fabulous to see the Tri-Alliance blue and yellow out in force.  We literally had athletes in every single event from the Fun Tri in the wee hours of the morning, to the speedy Sprinters, to those testing their endurance with the Olympic distance, to the Aquabike event, suiting those who are not running at the moment and even the Kids race which rounded out the day.

Little shout out to those who finished on the podium on Sunday:

Eleesha Nesci-Dixon – Fun Tri 1st F 30-39 in 0:38:14

Zoe Azzopardi – Olympic 1st F Teams in 2:53:34

Nikki Kershaw – Sprint Tri 2nd F First Timer in 1:44:37

Yasmin Johnson – Sprint Tri 2nd F Athena in 1:42:45

Claire O’Reilly – Sprint Tri 3rd F Athena in 2:04:12

Rodrigo Candiotti – Fun Tri 3rd M 30-39 in 0:36:00

John Hesse – Fun Tri 3rd M 50+ in 0:36:09

And to those who finished in the top 10 in their category:

Juliet Cooper – Sprint Tri 6th F 50-54 in 1:43:40

Narelle Hayes – Sprint Tri 6th F Athena in 2:17:31

Georgia Mackay – Olympic Tri 6th F 20-24 in 3:09:55

Paul Burns – Sprint Tri 7th M 55-59 in 1:28:22

Sue Burns – Sprint Tri 8th F 55-59 in 1:54:32

Annie Elgin-Bourchier – Fun Tri 9th F 50+ in 0:52:46

Tamara Tambyah – Sprint Tri 9th F 25-29 in 1:35:06

Petra Huttunen – Olympic Tri 9th F 25-29 in 3:06:26

  • Fastest Sprint time of the day, narrowly went to Chris Dixon in 1:20:50, with Johnny just a few steps away in 1:20:54. We are sensing a very healthy rivalry here!
  • Fastest Olympic time of the day was for Sam’s 2:25:50.
  • Fastest Fun tri time of the day went to Rodrigo in 0:36:00, with John just 9 seconds behind him!
  • Fastest female sprinter of the day went to Tegan in 1:33:14, with Tam & Alex close behind, both with 1:35mins
  • Super swimmers were Johnny 12:30 & Tam 14:02
  • Hot wheels were Dicko 43:06 & Tam 50:08
  • Road runners were Johnny 19:12 & Georgina 23:03

And let's help keep the series points getters going:
* Yasmin Johnson still holding 2nd place on 36pts
* Doug Ashman in 3rd place on 18pts
* Chris Dixon now in 5th place on 12pts

And for those playing along at home, who were keeping an eye on the wager Gaz threw down to the short course crew, his time was 1:51:00.  A quick swim in 14:36, a respectable bike leg of 47:38 and then it all went south, with his hammy giving up on the run leg.  I think this means he owes a few people a drink!  And word on the street is he not done as a betting man just yet.  The Aquabike challenge may be ON for those racing at Sandy.

TRI-ALLIANCE AMBASSADORS

Have your say!
Cast Your Vote This Week!

We would like to invite all members to vote for the 2023 Tri-Alliance Ambassadors.  We are looking for the two best candidates to take on the role this year and have complete faith that you will know who that will be!

All of our candidates have been nominated by their peers, obviously having exhibited the qualities we are looking for, over time.  The following candidates have kindly accepted. There were additional candidates nominated, but due to personal, professional and other commitments, they were unable to accept this year.

We invite you to review the glowing characteristics of our nominees, before casting your vote.

When voting, we are asking for your first and second preference.  We will award two ambassadors this year, based on total number of votes, not limited to gender and/or training distance group.

Voting is open from until 5pm Friday 20th January.  Ambassadors will be announced via the newsletter on Monday 23rd January. Voting is completely confidential.
