HIT AND MISS

brighton-finish-line

It really is a bit hit and miss at the moment with these weekends.  Who would have thought, last Sunday 30 degrees and sunny skies, this Sunday cold, windy and no swimming allowed at Brighton?  You’ve really gotta feel for the events team, actually for all the athletes as well, when it just comes down to bad luck on the day.  Let’s be thankful that we all still did get to race (says the runner in me that loves a duathlon!) and perhaps got you out of your comfort zones and pushed your limits!

We had just over 40 ppl rock out the sand-run duathlon under the Tri-Alliance banner and get a feel for the new course at Green Point.  Special shoutout to Johnny Noel.  Not only did he break the 1hr barrier for the race, but he came away with the fastest run splits in both the beach run and final run for his age group to finish 8th.  Now, if only he could pedal as fast!!!  We had 12 more speedy guys come in under the 1hr10min mark (Trent, Burnsy, Jobe, Gordon, Nic, Coach Gaz, Adrian, Juan Pablo, Roly, Michael, Rory, and Les), with our first female being one of our TTT gals hot on their heels in 1hr10:35 (go Tara!!!).  Tara also finished just off the podium in 4th place, and we had 7 top 10 finishers overall.  Cian was the fastest of our Fun Tri athletes, in a very speedy age group, with Doug next home, in 11th place.  Well done to everyone who took part.  Regardless of your time or the place you finished, you still beat everyone else who decided to stay in bed or on the couch…you got it done!  Find the full list of result via the link below.

And in other results news, we hope you all caught up with our post about Michael Falla’s result from Ironman Dubai 70.3 on Saturday.  Not only did he get around the hot course in a hot time, but how about those photos…..hot!!!  Well done, Michael.  Followed the coach’s orders and clocked a 43:47 swim, 2:35 bike and 1:49 run – total time 5hrs18mins.

There’s a couple of important training updates to add to those already previously mentioned.  More details below, but they impact the swim sessions at MSAC either side of this weekend and the Sunday morning sessions going forward.

We’re excited to be having Luke and Ben from ON Running joining us at Elwood again this Thursday night, bringing with them the wear test kit.  If you’ve been meaning to try out a pair or needing to upgrade your shoes, then don’t miss this session and your chance to run in ONs.

And we’re thinking of a little celebration for the end of the 2XU races.  Details below but think some casual drinks on a Sunday arvo.  Speaking of which, we’re hearing whispers that you’re all keen for an end of season shindig?!?!?  Stay tuned for some more information about this over the coming weeks.

And finally….I know deep down there was something else that I deemed really important last week to include in this week’s newsletter and like every good mum with too much going on in my head, for the life of me I cannot remember what it was!  I should have written it down because I can retain next to nothing these days.  But what I do know is, that I’m sure that as soon as I hit the send button on this campaign, I WILL remember.  So, I’ll apologize now and may have to follow up with a social media post in a couple of days (face palm!)

TRAINING UPDATES

MSAC Main Entrance
Cancelled Swim Sessions

Due to events taking place at MSAC over the next week, we are unable to hire our usual lane space for squad swimming on the following dates:

  • Friday 19th March
  • Monday 22nd March

Unfortunately, due to Daylight Savings sunrise is not until closer to 7, meaning it is too dark to swim open water in the morning before work.  This means that it will be an own swim session and athletes with programs should follow their prescribed swim sessions.

We will be holding an open water swim session on Monday night to replace the pool swim.  This is also a good opportunity to get an open water swim in for Race Week.  Meet at Elwood Beach at 5:45pm for a 6pm start.

Sunday Morning Sessions

Keeping in the same theme, we are going to start the Sunday swim at 7:30am now, due to the later sunrise.  This will also mean the run session will not begin until closer to 8:30am.

Greg is taking the Head Honcho duties very seriously and will be officiating at Sufferfest this weekend and Geelong 70.3 the following weekend.  Wishing him all the strength and patience to dish out the rules, with just the right amount of dominance and sass!

Wear Test Opportunity

The team from On Running will be coming down to Elwood on Thursday night with their wear test kit.  That means that you get to pick a pair of ON's (or 2 or 3) to try out during the run session.  It's a great opportunity to have a play with some different styles and experience the "running on clouds" feeling!

Celebrate Getting it Done

We think getting through to the last race of our 2021 season is worth celebrating, so we're planning on heading out after Race #5.  We'll find a venue where we can catch up over a bevvie or two and mingle sans lycra!  It'll start in the late arvo and we hope some of our long course crew will be back from Geelong by then to join in the fun!  Details TBC.
