So….did you survive the predicted Melbourne Armageddon?  IMHO…. it didn’t seem half as bad as the scaremongering broadcast in the preceding days. Or perhaps a quick get-out-of-town-and-head-up-north trip helped me to avoid all the carnage!  We were so delighted and honoured to celebrate the marriage of our very own Coach Jedda and Chris Lewis #TheLadsGetHitched over the weekend.  Their wedding was simply perfect in every way and we wish them all the very best as the begin their journey of married life together in sunny QLD.

Whilst we were topping up on the vitamin D, spare a thought for our athletes who are still training through to Ironman Cairns.  Just shy of 4 short weeks until the big day, which can only mean one thing = it’s the fat end of the program!  Ahhhh….The Fat End….aka ground hog day, aka training tired, aka what life?, aka eat, sleep, train, repeat!  These athletes will be pushing hard for the next 3 weekends (rain, hail or shine) and may need a friendly smile, run or ride buddy or someone just to touch base and say “keep going, you can do it!”.  Ironman training can be lonely at the best of times and when you’re training for an event out of the usual season, multiply this.  So big shout out to the Cairn crew – stay strong…you’ve got this!

And now for everyone else in Melbs Town, there should only be one thing on your mind…..L.O.R.N.E….C.A.M.P!  Yep…time to kick start the Winter campaign and have a weekend getaway with friends!  One of the best things you can do this winter is to get strong!  And one of the best ways to do it is with an intensive hit-out at a camp.  You get to surround yourself with like-minded people, live and train like a pro and forget about all the other worries of the world while you eat, sleep, train, repeat (sounds like Ironman)!  We have a ball each year and you come away with new fitness, new strength, new experiences and new friends!  You must read our Ambassador’s recap from last year and hear about what you’ll be missing if you don’t book now #DontGetFOMO

OK...enough from me, get into all the juicy details; meet Mr Bondy (part 2), communication, cycling through the cold, new and upcoming training sessions, a Giant Propel for sale and the Orca deals you don't want to miss! Grab your warm cup of hot chocolate, beanie and blanket and time to read on!

#AdventuresOfSharkAndSteph

A couple of week's ago, our Ambassador's got to know Stephen Bond and wanted to see how he was feeling leading in to his first 70.3 distance event.  Well, the race has be run and the goal box well and truly ticked at Challenge Melbourne in April.  Our Ambassador's caught up with Mr Bondy once again for part II and to reflect on the big day.

COMMUNICATION

Great Communication Begins With Connection
I bet we've all had one of those moments when you feel like everyone else knows what's going on and you're like...ah...what the?  Or when you turn up for something, only to realise you've missed the memo that the meeting point/start time/venue/etc has been changed.  And we've had times (Monday night was a great example), when session details need to change at the last minute and we need to communicate this with you ASAP.  Well, all we can say is GET CONNECTED.  If you are not following the Tri Alliance Vic Facebook page, then you are missing out.  We will usually use this avenue for any immediate communication, so it is a good idea to not only like the page but to receive notifications as we post.  Do this by adjusting your notification settings under "Following" on our FB page (highly recommended).  You should also follow the TriAlliance Instagram page and of course, be signed up to receive our newsletter each week (which will be coming out on a Thursday from now on)!  We can't make it more simple than that.  Be connected to be in the know.

How Can I Ride When It's So Cold?!?

“There’s no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing choices.”

When you’re riding on a cold, wet and windy day, you want to be as warm and as comfortable as you can. This is a guide for those new to Winter riding, to help you avoid learning from a very cold and miserable experience of your own!

FYI - The Winter Cycling stock has been updated in the Tri Shop and there's plenty of women's gear in particular to keep you warm and toasty!!

Thursday Night's Have a New Venue

It’s time to kick start our Thursday night run sessions.  These will now be held at The Tan, a track around the around King's Domain and the Botanic Gardens.  Our winter run sessions are great for breaking down your stride, working on your technique and building strength from the ground up.  This session is for ALL athletes and will include technique, hills and interval running.  We meet at 6:10pm next to the trough, opposite the Swan Street Bridge (you can also Google “Pillars of Wisdom” and it’s close to there).  Be ready to start the warm up at 6:15pm, otherwise you may miss the group.  It’s a good idea to bring appropriate layers as it can get quite chilly.

ALTERNATE SESSIONS:
The General will also be running 2 additional sessions over the winter months.  You can meet at the Essendon Rowing Club (Car Park) at 6:15pm on a Thursday night, for a run session along the Maribyrnong River.  And each Sunday (beginning this week 20th May) you can meet at the Fairfield Park Boathouse (Car Park) at 8:00am for a long run session.  Come to these run sessions prepared for technique, functional strength and stretching activities....and the dulcet tones of The General!
