WEEKLY TRANSITION
15th APRIL 2020 – SWIM, BIKE, RUN, READ

It's the weekly read that everyone waits for!
Stay up to date with all the latest news, hear from athletes, find weekly specials and get the lowdown on all important weekend sessions

THERE IS COMFORT IN ROUTINE

wellness

We hope all the TA Family had a happy Easter over the weekend.  And if you were anything like us, it was really nice to slow the pace down, have some time out and binge on Netflix and chocolate eggs!!!  It’s all about balance, amirite?!?!

So, with that mini-break, we’ve come back full of energy to pick up right where we left off – and that’s all systems go!

Thanks to all those who provided feedback about our new online timetable.  Lots of warm and fuzzies, but also some good suggestions for improvements.  We are learning and experiencing the new routine alongside you and agreed with a lot of what was said.  Reflecting on your ideas, we can make some tweaks and trial a few different time slots for the last two weeks of April.  At the end of this time we will be in a better position to know what is going to work best for many of you.  Read below for details, which also includes Ollie’s response to some of the questions posed.

Our other piece of exciting news, is the recent update of the CoachingMate app.  We know the majority of our athletes want to be able to access their programs from the convenience of the app, which is why it was important to improve the functionality.  Done!  Added options for you to be able to tap into, without the hassle of having to use the desktop version.

We’ve also included details about:

Social – TA Happy Hour
* Training Article – Finding your groove
* Saturday Ride Details - know how to get involved
* Workshop – Zwift 101

As always, we are optimistic about the *bonus* time we now have to work on our fitness, our mobility, our strength and our technique.  When are we ever blessed with such an opportunity to pull in the reigns and resist the temptation of racing to have a TRUE off-season?!?  Don’t waste the opportunity.

ONLINE TIMETABLE FEEDBACK & REVIEW

Online-Timetable-Combined
You speak - We listen

Thank you to all those who provided us feedback about the online timetable.  Comments like:

  • Thanks heaps for all you are doing!
  • I like it, not too early starts and just after work finishes
  • The virtual zoom medium is excellent now I understand participation!
  • You guys have done an amazing job!

Are always nice to hear.  But so is the advice of how to tweak things to make it even better.  Here’s an overview of some suggestions (with added commentary from the HC):

Can the strength exercises be varied?

The strength sessions are programmed in specific blocks, over time.  So, you will see the same exercises, with increasing sets/reps for each block.  This is deliberate.  For the best gain, these blocks need to be completed in order, before progressing to the next block.  This will allow the body to adapt and build appropriately.

Can Hot Laps start a bit later, so we get a sleep in?

Absolutely – great idea!  We will trial a new start time of 6:30am – 7:30am for the last 2 weeks of April.

Can Hot Laps be available on Zoom?

Yes, it can.  However, please bear in mind that if Hot Laps does not appear on your program, it is because this session is not advised for you at this point in the training phase.  There will be plenty of time for HLs coming up.  If you would like to attend HLs, please contact Ollie to discuss if this is appropriate and to obtain further details.

Can Thursday runs start earlier so we can avoid running in the dark?

Excellent idea and yes, we are available to facilitate this.  We will trial moving the Thursday night run session to 5pm – 6pm for the last 2 weeks of April.

Could we have some flexibility sessions a bit earlier?

Yes.  We can appreciate the juggle of training and dinner each evening and are working through this ourselves as we navigate a new timetable.  We agree and with some of the evening sessions we can tweak the times to accommodate.  For the last 2 weeks of April, we will move some sessions to an earlier timeslot.

In summary, our proposed changes for the last two weeks of April will include:

  • Wednesday Strength @ 6pm – 7pm + Wednesday Flex @ 7pm – 7:30pm
  • Thursday Hot Laps – 6:30am – 7:30am
  • Thursday Run – 5pm – 6pm + Thursday Flex – 6:30pm – 7pm
  • Friday Flex – 6pm – 6:30pm

Finding Your Groove During COVID-19

"So you’ve hunkered down, stocked your fridge, set up your pain cave, ordered your bands for dryland swim training, finally purchased a smart trainer, and sampled a dozen online workouts while you weather the COVID-19 storm…so now what?

The reality is we need to adjust to a “new normal” for the next three to four months. To feel happy and settled we need to enforce a sense of normalcy, and alternately, rethink the way we do a few things. Here are a couple of ideas to help you stay focused and motivated during this chapter."
