Spring is in the air, the sun is shining, and that can only mean one thing - it’s Build Week 1! We’re kicking off a new cycle, and it’s all about ramping up that training load. This is where we lay down the groundwork, one rep, one km, and one session at a time. These Build Weeks are what transform those early season gains into lasting performance, so buckle up and let’s get ready to do some heavy lifting (figuratively, of course - unless you’re into that).

With Melbourne’s weather finally delivering some stunning Spring days, there’s no better time to get out there and embrace the change in pace. Training feels different when the sun’s out, and we can’t wait to see all of you taking advantage of it this week. Nothing like a bit of extra Vitamin D to keep the motivation high!

Under Training Notes this week, we’ve got a little something special lined up: Thursday night combo sessions at Elwood are back! The combo sessions kick off this week, and they’re all about putting together the pieces of swim, bike, and run to maximise your gains. These sessions are where your fitness is forged, so come with a can-do attitude and be ready to put in the work.

Now, let’s talk team colours! We’re calling on everyone to wear those Tri-Alliance kits with pride this season. With new apparel arriving soon, this is the perfect time to think about your race day look. There’s something powerful about lining up in the team kit, representing the squad, and showing everyone what we’re made of. So get ready to suit up in those fresh TA threads!

And a big round of applause to everyone who smashed it at the Melbourne Marathon Festival over the weekend! From 10km to the full marathon, we had some incredible performances. We’ve also got some extra results from Malta to share - this squad is truly global, and we couldn’t be prouder. Check out the full breakdown below to see who’s been flying the flag for TA around the world.

All sessions are, as always, updated on the online timetable. And with the weather forecast looking amazing this week, we’re counting on seeing all of you out there in force. Let’s make the most of these beautiful Spring days and keep that momentum rolling as we charge ahead into race season.

Make the Most of Sessions

As we get ready to kick off the Thursday night Combo Sessions at Elwood, we want to set some expectations right from the start.

For those of you doing Hot Laps on Thursday mornings, the run session is your priority Thursday nights.
I know some of you love to spend extra time in the water, even throwing in long swims that aren’t on the program. But remember, the run is where I want your focus. If you’re squeezing it in at the end of the night or not giving it your best because you’ve overdone it on the swim, you’re not setting yourself up for success.

So, get in, complete your swim, and then let’s make that run count. Stick to the plan and keep your priorities in check - we’re here to build towards race day, and that means being smart about your sessions.

For short course, our main focus right now is race skills, especially transitions. It’s something we often breeze over, but it can make all the difference come race day. At Elwood, we’ll be putting you through your paces with combination training to sharpen up those skills of moving between disciplines. It’s going to be tough, but it’s essential for preparing you to race at your best.
Come ready to work hard.

This season, let’s keep things on track and prioritise quality over quantity. Stick to the program, commit to the process, and we’ll get race-ready together.

See you out there,

Coach Ollie

Gear Up & Represent!

Tri-Alliance family, it's time to wear your blue and yellow with pride!  Our jerseys and tri suits are back in stock soon, and we couldn’t be more pumped to see everyone decked out in our iconic gear.   There’s something powerful about seeing our squad come together in full force, knowing that every athlete wearing the team colours is part of something bigger - a community that pushes, supports, and celebrates together.

This is more than just apparel - it’s a symbol of everything we stand for. When you put on that jersey or tri suit, you're not just showing up for yourself; you’re standing shoulder-to-shoulder with teammates who share your passion, commitment, and drive. We’re not just athletes; we’re a team. So, let’s suit up and show our colours proudly!

We’re calling on every one of you to get behind the team and make sure you’re ready to represent Tri-Alliance as we head into race season. Whether you’re training, racing, or just getting together with the squad, let’s make our presence known. Wear the blue and yellow, feel the pride, and let’s show everyone what we’re made of!

Athlete Results - 1

Melbourne Marathon Festival

Yesterday, thousands of runners hit the pavement for the Melbourne Marathon Festival, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and pushing through some unexpectedly warm October weather. For some, this race was a chance to chase personal bests and see just how far their training has taken them. Others used it as a train-through event, a stepping stone towards bigger A races later in the year. No matter their goals, everyone gave it their all, and we couldn’t be prouder.  Here are some of the standout performances:

  • James: Took an impressive 90 seconds off his 10km PB and followed it up with a five-minute improvement on his half marathon time—all without wrecking himself. Fantastic pacing and progress, James!

  • Shrid: Clocked a PB time of 2:04 in the half marathon while using it as a training run for his upcoming A-race. His performance is a solid indication that he’s right on track for the season ahead.

  • Niz: Ran the half marathon at a steady 5:17 pace, finishing with a solid time of 1:53. He paced himself carefully, knowing that he wanted to stay strong for recovery. Smart racing, Niz!

  • Emma, Aly, and Liv: Tackled their first-ever half marathons and each pocketed a PB! Huge congrats to this trio for embracing the challenge and coming out on top.

  • Matt: Absolutely crushed his goal, finishing in 3:27:19, well under his target of 3:30. It was his second marathon, he’s knocked off over 45 minutes from his first, which was a semi-trail run in December last year. In just 10 months, Matt has completed two marathons and an Ironman. That’s serious endurance and grit - way to go, Matt!

Whether aiming for personal records or using this race to test their fitness, everyone made the squad proud. Congratulations to all our athletes!

Eurosport LRC 10km Overseas

Our adventurous Juliet couldn’t resist the chance for a fun run while in Malta for a yacht race! Taking on the Eurosport LRC 10km, she battled the heat and humidity to finish 5th in her age group - out of nearly 500 participants.  She noted that the conditions were tough, but she pushed through and delivered a result to be proud of. We’re thrilled to see her representing the squad overseas.  Way to embrace the challenge and make the most of your travels, Juliet. Congratulations on a fantastic result!
