BUMPER SESSIONS

Happy Valentine’s Day lovely people! Here at Tri-Alliance we always like to wear our hearts on our sleeve.  But did you know that’s more than just a phrase? In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names to see who they would be partnered with for the following year, and they would wear the name pinned to their sleeve for one week so that everyone would know their supposed true feelings.  Anyway, hope you all had a good day, regardless of what you did!

I thought it might be a good time to revisit those timelines I published a few weeks’ back.  Jeepers some of them seem to have crept up.  Let’s take a look.  There’s only:

  • 6 days until Ironman 70.3 Geelong
  • 20 days until Race #5 at Elwood
  • 27 days until Challenge Shepparton
  • 34 days until Ironman 70.3 Melbourne
  • 41 days until Race #6 at St Kilda
  • 76 days until Ironman Australia (Port Macquarie)

I encouraged you to take the opportunity to talk to a coach, set up a connection and make sure you are on the right path to your goal.  And many of you did!  Trust me, that is definitely a step in the right direction.  Same offer applies; coaches are very happy to meet up with anyone looking for advice and a few coaches have availability to take on personalised athletes.  Just reach out.

Speaking of coaches (#nicesegue), this week we are profiling Weekesy!  Dan is a long-standing member of the Tri-Alliance family, he’s worked his way through the ranks of athlete and now coach and was the inaugural winner of our John Cornish Scholarship Award in 2011 – Wow!  Most of you will know Weekesy from swim squad at MSAC, and know that he’s passionate about technique and working on form in the water.  But there may be some things you don’t know about Mr Weekesy, so make sure you have a read below and shoot him a little message if you have questions or just want to make that connection.

And lastly, we want to wish all our athletes heading down to Geelong this weekend the very best of luck.  Ironman 70.3 Geelong will take place on Sunday and we’re sending good racing vibes your way.  Aurelie #395 will be making her 70.3 debut, alongside seasoned athletes in Sebastian #434 and Jules (team).  Can’t wait to see how you all go!

Happy training everyone!  Enjoy Build Week 1 😊

MEET THE COACHES
dan-weekes
Dan (Weekesy) Weekes

Dan (Weekesy) comes from a swimming and cycling background, having started club swimming at the age of 11. He went on to compete at home town, university and county level in both swimming and water polo in England. He has also ridden bikes his whole life: BMX, mountain bikes, road and time trial. His focus turned to triathlon in 2008 and he raced for 8 years, notably with five appearances in Age Group World Championships at Olympic Distance and 70.3.

As a swimmer with zero running experience before moving to Australia at 33, Dan knows first-hand what it takes to turn an athlete into a runner and prides himself on the small additions to a program that can bring comfort and efficiency to a run gait.

Weekesy has been coaching since 2016 and focuses strongly on training with heart rate and power zones for ride and run. These bespoke zones are established for each and every athlete, which means training sessions drill right down to where each person should be spending their time. In addition to this pointed approach, Dan provides extra curricular strength and conditioning workouts outside of swim, bike and run which add depth to the athlete’s development and provides a symbiotic approach.
