~ 14th August 2023 ~

It's Build Week 1, and the stage is set for an exciting week ahead.  Mostly because The Matildas will face England in their knockout clash on Wednesday evening (anyone else still recovering from the heart attack penalty shootout?!?!?), and secondly because we welcome back all our Thailand campers.  We know the weather is probably a rude shock to the system, but you should be able to use all those training kms built in heat to catapult you forward.

We've now entered the Strength and Endurance Phase, a crucial element of our training puzzle. This phase is all about building a robust physical foundation, ensuring that your body becomes a fortress of strength, resilience, and power. It's the backbone upon which your triathlon success is built. Our section below delves into the whys and hows of this phase, explaining its significance in enhancing your performance and setting you up for your racing experiences.

This phase seamlessly ties into our Pre-Season camp, and the message is clear: to be ready to race, you need to put in the effort to be race-ready! It's as straightforward as it gets. We want each and every one of you to embrace the training spike at our Pre-Season camp and launch yourselves into the upcoming racing season with gusto. Secure your spot now and make the most of this incredible opportunity to fine-tune your skills, transitions, and race-specific strategies. Let's ensure you turn up to race day with your best foot forward.

As we gear up for the racing season, the countdown to your upcoming races is on. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking you have all the time in the world to prepare, but reality beckons. The clock is ticking faster than you might realise. We’ve broken down the time left until race day, shedding light on the urgency of taking action now. This is a timely reminder to check that you are on the right program to ensure you're fully prepped for your races.

Speaking of racing, our exclusive 20% discount on 2XU Triathlon Series entries is an offer you can't afford to miss. Annual Members, mark your calendars for September 1st, when this amazing deal becomes available. We want to see the yellow and blue out in force this season.

We're excited to announce that the TriShop has stocked up on long-sleeve jerseys.  They offer great wind protection with Windtex technology in the front panels, and breathable insulated warmth from Italian Roubaix material for the arms, side and back panels. Don’t miss out this time around!

This weekend's long ride will have dual starting points. Long-course athletes and short-course advanced athletes will kick off from North Point Cafe at 6:30am, led by Head Coach Ollie. Short-course athletes will rendezvous with Coach Gaz at Wantirna Mall for a 7am roll out. Get ready for a strength and endurance ride that matches your goals.

Remember, we're always here for you. If you need advice on your program, training, or anything triathlon-related, don't hesitate to reach out to a coach. Your journey is our priority, and we're here to guide you every stroke, pedal, and stride of the way.

Building Strength & Endurance for Success

Welcome to the Strength and Endurance Phase of your training program! This phase marks the second step in our five-phase training cycle. This phase is designed to bolster your physical foundation, ensuring that your body is resilient, strong, and equipped to handle the rigours of triathlon training and racing. Here's why this phase matters:

Endurance Development

In triathlon, endurance is your backbone. This phase extends and enhances the endurance built in the initial base technique phase. Longer sessions in swimming, cycling, and running help improve your aerobic capacity, setting the stage for sustained performance during races.

Strength Development

A strong body is a resilient body. Strength training during this phase builds muscle strength, particularly in key areas like the core, legs, and upper body. This added strength improves efficiency and reduces the risk of injuries.

Aerobic Improvement

The combination of endurance training and strength work contributes to significant aerobic improvement. Your body becomes more efficient at utilising oxygen, which translates to better performance across all disciplines.

Technique Reinforcement

Strength and endurance training allows you to execute proper technique under fatigue. As you train longer and more intensely, maintaining solid technique becomes paramount, enhancing your efficiency and reducing wasted energy.

Injury Prevention

A strong body is less prone to injuries. By focusing on strength and endurance, you're reinforcing muscles, tendons, and ligaments, providing a protective buffer against common triathlon-related injuries.

Completing the Strength and Endurance Phase is essential before moving on to the subsequent phase—the Strength and Speed Phase. The foundation you establish now will directly impact your ability to handle the higher intensity and demands of speed work in the upcoming phase.

How to Embrace the Strength and Endurance Phase

Here are some tips to make the most of this phase and set yourself up for success:

  1. Consistency is Key: Stay committed to your training plan and follow it diligently. Consistency yields the best results.
  2. Balanced Nutrition: Fuel your body with a balanced diet rich in carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats, and essential nutrients to support your training demands.
  3. Recovery Matters: Adequate sleep, hydration, and recovery techniques are as important as your training sessions. Prioritise recovery to allow your body to adapt and grow stronger.
  4. Consult Your Coach: Work closely with your coach to tailor the training plan to your individual needs and monitor your progress.
  5. Stay Motivated: Visualise your goals, track your progress, and celebrate your achievements along the way.

Embrace the Strength and Endurance Phase as a critical steppingstone in your journey. The work you put in now will form the foundation for your peak performance in the racing season ahead. Keep pushing forward!
