RACING REGIONALLY

challenge-shepp-team-finish

It was great to head up to Shepparton over the weekend to support the athletes at the Challenge event.  The feeling of racing regionally with a warm and supportive environment can’t be beaten.  I was going to complain about how cold it was in Shepparton over the weekend, but when we heard about the conditions back in Melbs, I don't think there was anything to complain about!  It was chilly, but we also had the sunshine to distract us.  Although, I didn’t have to get in the water!  Shout out to Head Coach Ollie, who jumped in the IRB and did water safety for the event.  We hear he was able to literally support the athlete’s every stroke and may have even copped a friendly splash as a thank you (BumbleBee!).

So, with the last VIC race of the season done and the postponement of IM Australia (#bummer), it truly is now recovery time for ALL athletes.  All except those racing at Cairns in June.  So please take note of the training updates below to see what we’re up to.  And on that, if you are able to make it down to Elwood on Thursday nights at 5:30pm, it would be great to get the session going in what’s left of the light.

Note: Wednesday MSAC swims are still at 7pm until we let you know differently.

That also means we should see everyone on the Saturday latte rides!!!  These are F-U-N.  Last week we dropped in to Love Your Soul and this week we are thinking of travelling in a different direction to the usual.  Come along, enjoy the slower pace, train with some new people, or if you’re like me… just turn up just for the coffee!

Thanks to everyone for letting us know what you’re thinking about our Lorne Winter Training Camp.  This goes a long way to helping us plan.  And if you’re still yet to decide, take a read of the feedback from our last camp as well as answers to some question that have already been asked.  You’ll get all the info you need to know you need to be there.

Urgh…….Membership emails.  Thanks for your patience as we sort through these.  Just know that if you did not make any changes to your membership, but you received an email, you can safely delete it!  I’m happy if you want to double check anything with us in the office, but these will be back to normal as soon as the server is up-to-date.

For now, enjoy the sleep ins, the social time and the necessary balance of off season!

Recent Race Results

Great to be back in Shepparton for the Challenge event over the weekend.  We’ve missed being up there and the day did not disappoint.  There was a great feel in the air and lots of comradery out on course as athletes gave racing one last go for the season.  Well done to all the athletes who braved the icy conditions, the numb limbs and pins and needles to get amongst it.  Check out all the results and some of their reflections:

Dan: Made the trip to @challengeshepp over the weekend with the objective to empty the tank on the bike and see what happens on the run. Result - fast bike and PB run with the fastest AG run. Objective achieved.  Just missed the podium but happy with 4th place.  100% focus provides reward, head down and on with #imcairns @ironmanoceania.  A big shout out to @ollieallan @mich_bond and Oscar @trialliance for setting up our little home away from home track side. It’s the little things that make us achieve.

Steph: It has been nothing but a privilege to be back racing again after the year that was, and whilst much of the rest of the world remains closed.  A huge thank you to the incredible team @_o2events for all the work in bringing us both the @2xutriathlonseries and @challengeshepp

Terese: Sunday was a spectacular day.  2nd Olympic distance race and I’m left craving more I’m curious to see what I’ll do next but for now I really truly need to focus on my studies.  Grateful for my mind body and soul.   Grateful for the way I was raised by two very special humans.  Grateful for my incredible brother bears.

Lisa: Finishing off the racing season on a high! Pretty happy with the weekend’s results- top 5 spot!  It was a windy and cold race up at @challengeshepp, but a great day racing with friends, filled with smiles, laughs and tears of joy!  Time now to rest, recover before all the fun beings with winter training.

TRAINING UPDATES

Melbourne-Winter-Running
Overview

As April is our recovery month and transition into the May technique block, the timetable begins to look and feel a little different.  This is sometimes confusing to those who are used to the routine of the past couple of months.  So, let me give you an overview to help you know what’s going on for the whole squad, with the expection of those athletes training through to IM Cairns.

A key date in our timeline is the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. This is when we traditionally hold our Winter Training Camp and when we build on from base training, to add endurance to our technique.

There will be:

  • No Tuesday or Thursday morning sessions until after Queen’s Bday (mid June).
  • Thursday night run sessions (The Tan & Essendon) commencing from the beginning of May.  Until then it's fun & fitness at Elwood.
  • Social Saturday rides for April, followed by endurance rides for May and onto hills after Queen’s Bday.
  • Sunday long swim and long runs will remain at Elwood for all of April. Swim at 7am and run at 8am.
  • Sunday long runs will begin from May 2nd from MSAC & Fairfield.
APRIL LATTE RIDES

love-your-soul
Slow Down and Enjoy the Ride

Saturday mornings in April are all about coffee rides.  These are a social, easy, all-abilities ride for all athletes (expect those racing at Cairns).  We will be stopping for coffee and cake, and maybe even more than once!

Last week we dropped in to Love Your Soul in Parkdale and this week we'll try out a new coffee stop.  The venue will change each week and we're planning something special for our last one, which may carry on a little!

Keep an eye out for the FB event for more details.

Riders note:
* Tri-Alliance kit essential for safety when bunch riding
* Front & rear lights mandatory
* Spare tube/s, levers and CO2 necessary
* Nutrition & hydration recommended

All riders are to be familiar with TA Bike Safety and Ethics.

TRAINING CAMP

Surround Yourself With People Who Get It

One of the best things to do over Winter is to get strong!   And one of the best ways to do it, is with an intensive hit-out at our Winter training camp!

You get to surround yourself with like-minded people, live and train like a pro and forget about all the other worries of the world while you eat, sleep, train, repeat! This is held on the Queen's Birthday long weekend in Lorne.

We are trying our best to make this happen this year and what would really help would be to get an idea of numbers.  We're asking you to please take the 1min to complete this form to let us know what you're thinking.  It's even helpful to know if you are not coming, so we can plan accordingly.

ALBERT PARK LAKE

Grand-Prix-Riding
Delays Extended

As a result of the works undertaken to date, it's been identified that there is a need for additional strengthening of the pavement sub-layers at locations along Lakeside Drive. Accordingly, the planned opening of Lakeside Drive on Sunday 11 April 2021 (prior to the scheduled subsequent Lakeside Drive closure for final asphalting works in late April), is no longer possible.

* Lakeside Drive (Albert Road – Queens Road Slip Road) will remain closed until Friday 21 May 2021 to complete the remediation works and alleviate the need for any further intermittent closures after reopening.
* There will be intermittent closures of the Lakeside Drive and Ross Gregory Drive
intersection to complete the intersection resurfacing works during April and May.
* Similarly, Aughtie Drive will require intermittent road closures for milling and resurfacing works throughout May.
