🏅 Marathon Weekend Wrap-Up

What a weekend Melbourne saw! The 2025 Melbourne Marathon Festival lit up the city with tens of thousands of runners hitting the streets from 5 km all the way up to the full marathon. Rain held off, the skies were crisp and the energy was electric from the MCG finish to the cheering crowds.

To every Tri-Alliance athlete who made it out there (whether you ran 5K, 10K, half or full) congratulations. You showed up, you pushed hard and you earned your finish line. That’s what counts.

🌍 Marathon Dreams in Chicago - Mario’s Six-Star Moment

While Melbourne was pounding the pavement locally, Mario Staffieri was chasing something even bigger - the Chicago Marathon, one of the six prestigious World Marathon Majors. He clocked an incredible 3:14:23, adding yet another stellar result to his already impressive running résumé.

But this wasn’t just any marathon for Mario. Chicago marks a major milestone.  Completing his set of the World Marathon Majors (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York). With that, Mario has earned the highly coveted Six Star Medal, a symbol of consistency, resilience, and a lifetime of running dedication.

This is a bucket-list achievement few ever reach, and Mario has done it with the same humility and quiet determination that’s defined his years training under the Tri-Alliance program. Congratulations, Mario.  What an extraordinary accomplishment!

🌊 Heading to Worlds

Next up is Natalie, heading off to represent at the World Triathlon Age-Group Championships in Wollongong. She qualified for the Sprint distance event (750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run), scheduled for Friday, 17 October 2025.

Training for a big race out-of-season is never easy.  Motivation dips, weather fights you and fewer people are doing the same grind. But you’ve put in the work, stayed true to the plan, and now it’s your moment to shine. The whole squad is behind you. Go get it, Natalie.

🏖️ Try the Tri Returns (with a Side of Nerves)

This weekend, Try the Tri kicks off at Elwood Beach. Remember when you nervously showed up to your first event...unsure, excited, maybe a little intimidated? That’s exactly why being there as a friendly face matters. If you’re around, swing by to cheer, help set up, or just give a smile to the newbies. Because sessions like this mark the true start of the season.

🔧 Build Week #1: The Tone-Setter

We’re entering Build Week #1... a chance to solidify foundations and set the tone for the blocks ahead. Commit to your program this week, because your future self will be leaning on these sessions.

Good news: Tuesday morning run and Thursday morning Hot Laps are back on the schedule. Don’t let those go missing... that’s where the gains begin.

Wrap Up

The weather’s turning, race season is creeping closer, and every opportunity you take now matters. Missed sessions in summer can’t be made up.  But you can control what you show up for. So, let’s treat this week as a stepping stone: swim strong, run strong, push where you can, rest where you need to.

Stay sharp. Stay hungry. Stay in it.
