Ironman Melbourne 70.3 was an absolute ripper, serving up a smorgasbord of smiles, surprises and superheroes. Let's break it down! First off, the swim had a mind of its own, with the buoys deciding they'd rather play tag than stay put. So, organisers opted for a brisk 800-meter splash-fest starting at St Kilda Surf Life Saving Club at 6:30am. Short and sweet, just like a shot of espresso to wake up those tired muscles. Onto the bike leg and it was a cruise down the familiar Beach Rd, blessed with a gentle breeze and plenty of cheers spread along the course from the TA family. And would you believe it? The sun decided to join the party just in time for the run, turning Melbourne 70.3 into a picture-perfect day for all involved. A round of applause for our first timers – Raditya, James, Sri, Shri, Shane, and Sarah – who tackled the distance with the enthusiasm of kids in a candy store. Welcome to the club, where madness meets endurance, and you've officially earned your stripes. The speedsters of the day were none other than Team "6 ears, 3 ear plugs" (Georgia, Angus, Liam), clocking in at 4:05:31. Trent, a force to be reckoned with, nailed it individually in 4:11:24, also snagging his Age Group crown. A shoutout to the aquatic maestro, Joey, who sliced through the water in a cool 17:18. Meanwhile, Angus (you beast on wheels), buried himself for the team with a time of 2:18:59, but Trent and James were hot on his tail. The run split was a showdown of speed, with Trent crossing the finish line at a blink-and-you'll-miss-it 1:22:00, closely followed by Liam at 1:23:35. These guys were practically flying! Top 10 finishes included Trent in 1st place, “6 ears, 3 ear plugs” in 5th and the hilariously named "Try Not To Die" (Enrique, Ben, Neda) snatching 10th place. Sorry, Mario, you were just a breath away in 11th – still a solid effort! To all our athletes, whether you embraced the podium or just embraced the post-race snacks – you rock! Your commitment, grit, and love for the sport make this community something special. Until the next adventure, keep SBR-ing, keep it fun, and keep those legs moving! |
