THREE IN A ROW!

tt-racing-sez

And that makes it 3 weekends of racing in a row. Wowee!  Think we’ve all earned ourselves a little rest before we go again.

Race #2 of the 2XU Series in Brighton was great.  It was packed, it was challenging, but it was great!  The sun came out to play, there was just enough wind to keep everyone honest and the Tri-Alliance tent had the best seat in the house, right on the finish line.  Couple of key takeaways from the weekend:

  • Enter for the race early – several of our athletes missed out on a spot because there was no room left in transition. It doesn’t happen often, but I guess this shows, it can happen!
  • Never skip the hard training days! That’s what makes you stronger for race day.  Athletes needed to draw on this strength on Sunday to battle the current in the swim, knuckle down into the winds on the bike and take the hills and trails in their stride on the run.  This is likely to happen again at Race #4 in Sandy – be warned.
  • Have the dream team around when the winds really pick up, the TA Taj is becoming air borne and we need everyone to hang on for dear life before we’re all swept away! Can’t thank those who stayed around enough.  Without your help, we would have been fishing the tents out of the bay!

I’m deeming Race #2 as a success!  Be sure to read all the race results below, including some hard-earned times and our podium champs!

If you’re now wondering what you’ll do with yourselves to keep the motivation up over Xmas/New Year and keep you race fit leading into Race #3, then look no further than Hell Week 2022.  It’s specifically designed to give you that little training spike and just what you need to take your performance to the next level.  Not long to go now.  The dates are set: 24th – 31st Dec.  I’ve included the Hell Week guide again below so you can familiarise yourself with the routine.  Ask questions now so you are prepared!

Anyone who has made a purchase from the Special Orders store, will be receiving communication from Andy today.  Samples are coming and they will be available for you to check sizing.  So we are keeping it open for now.  Some of you may have noticed that the yellow & blue suits make you stand out on race day, and they get the most cheers.  So, if you weren’t feeling the love, time to act fast!

In sad news, we have made the tough decision to pull the pin on the TA Xmas Party this year.  There was initially a little mix up with the dates communicated and this has led to some people no longer being available for the Sunday afternoon.  Obviously, we want to have as many of you there as possible, which simply won’t be the case now (with our error).  We hope to have an informal coffee and/or breakfast off the back of some of the Hell Week sessions, so that we can wish all of you a Merry Christmas in person!

And last, but not least, we have some information on a couple of second-hand bikes for sale.  One for the ladies and one for the gents.  We know bikes are hard to come by, and since we can vouch for both of these owners, it’s worth sharing what they are offering.  All the details about the bikes and how to contact them are below.

That’s it for another week.  Keep an eye on the socials as the unpredictable weather is making swimming in the bay a little challenging.  Monday night was a no-go.  Tomorrow morning is off.  And we’ll make a call about Friday closer to the time.  If you need a program, get in touch with your coach, so you can get the arms ticking over at your local pool.

Squad Results

Lucky, we got that race in on Sunday morning, before all the rain and crazy winds came in!  Race #2 was a great success, and it was awesome to see the Tri-Alliance army out in force once again.  We have athletes in all events, from the Kids early in the morning, to the Fun Tri with their cross-country transition to the Sprinter rounding out the day and even a sneaky team making an appearance!

We're thrilled with the efforts of all.  The course itself was much tougher than Elwood, so bearing that in mind, the times and places were all well-deserved!  And as someone reminded me just before I headed out for a jog - we were still in front of everyone who was sitting on the couch/sidelines on Sunday morning!

Little shout out to those who finished on the podium on Sunday:

Conservation Queens (Javiera Olivares) - Sprint - 1st - F Team in 1:24:39
TA Symposium (Alex, Gaz, Bondy) - Sprint - 2nd - Mixed Team in 1:16:50
Coline Duquet - Sprint - 2nd - F First Timer in 1:22:44
Yasmin Johnson - Sprint - 2nd - Athena in 1:31:46
Rodrigo Candiotti - Fun Tri - 3rd M 30 - 39 in 0:36:34
Doug Ashman - Sprint - 3rd M 70 - 74 in 1:36:04

And to those who finished in the top 10 in their category:
Eleesha Nesci-Dixon Fun Tri 4th F 30 - 39
Ben Chadwick Fun Tri 4th M 40 - 49
John Hesse Fun Tri 4th M 50+
Jaiman Patel Sprint 4th M First Timer

Chris Dixon Sprint 5th M 40 - 44
Sue Burns Fun Tri 6th F 50+
Leonardo Guerrero Fun Tri 7th M 30 - 39

Samuel Bauret Sprint 8th Open
Tamara Tambyah Sprint 10th F 25 - 29
Sarah Maniapoto Sprint 10th F 40-44

  • Fastest time of the day (again) went to Chris Dixon, with a speedy 1:04:19.  Not bad considering he's still recovering from a podium in a fast and furious IM 70.3 WA last weekend.
  • He was closely followed by Canadian Sam and Kurt, just on the 1hr10min mark, and AMAC at 1hr12mins.
  • Fastest female of the day went to Tam in 1:18:34!
  • Super swimmers were Sprint: Dicko 10:07 & Henna 10:12 and Fun:  Eleesha 4:05 & Ben 4:11
  • Hot wheels were Sprint: Dicko 30:26 & Tam 35:59 and Fun: Ben 15:35 & Sue 16:18
  • Road runners were Sprint: Dicko 19:09 & Coline 22:49 and Fun: John 7:50 & Eleesha 9:32
And let's help keep the series points getters going:
Yasmin Johnson currently in 2nd place on 24pts
Doug Ashman currently in 3rd place on 18pts
Chris Dixon in 3rd place on 12pts
IRONMAN UPDATE

Mario-Cover
Super Mario

I said I would keep you posted on the latest with Mario and his result from Busso.  Well, no change in the podium - of course!  He well and truly earned that 3rd place with a blistering backend of the marathon.
Unfortunately, due to Ironman announcing that the male field will not be racing in Kona in 2023 (new location yet to be announced), they decided not to award any World Championship places.  This leaves Mario with a nervous wait until January, when the announcement and roll down will take place.  We hope he a) receives an automatic qualification (should do) b) at least receives a roll down and c) can transfer his World Champ race to 2024 when the male field will again return to Kona.
Keep your fingers crossed team!

TA XMAS PARTY

Not Going Ahead :(

We're sad to announce that Xmas party will not be going ahead as planned this year.
Due to the Port Melbourne Bowling Club weekly comp taking precedence on the Saturday afternoon, and us having to move our function to the Sunday afternoon, we know this left some people unable to attend as they had already made alternate plans.
We sincerely apologize for the mix up in communication with dates. All bookings will be refunded immediately.
We will be trying to organize a more impromptu and informal Xmas coffee/breakfast off the back of one of the Hell Week sessions.
