THE GP ROLLS INTO TOWN

short-course-training

As the GP rolls in, it's time for us to roll out!  This weekend we take the trip down the highway to tackle Race #5 of the 2XU series in Portarlington.  It feels like it's been a while since the last one, so time to dust out the cobwebs and get back to hustling.   We NEED everyone to pull on the team colours and get to work!  We currently have 36 athletes signed up under the TA banner, but I have a feeling I’m going to be busy later in the week with some last-minute entries.  We’ve included lots of links to get you ready for race day, so make sure you read on to learn all about the equipment you need, race day checklist and our call for Tri Kids volunteers.
We also send good racing wishes to Ange and Lotte, heading up to Mooloolaba to take part in the the MooTri Festival.  The 2019 Mooloolaba Triathlon is the National Championship Standard Distance Triathlon for Age Group athletes on Sunday and hosts the ITU Triathlon World Cup race for elites on Saturday.  Good racing, gals (and shoutout to Michelle Paton who was to race but will now be chief supporter in a sling!).

Also included in this edition is a very important Save the Date, a feature article from Gaz about keeping your teeth twinkling, our MSAC swim squad criteria, windtrainer session organisation and the weekend’s training details (including race recon).

Race#5 - Portarlington
It feels like it's been a while, but let's get back on bandwagon and kickstart the momentum rolling by getting stuck in to our second last race of the 2XU Triathlon Series at Portarlington this weekend! Put your hand up if you're ready and raring to go!

We currently have 36 athletes signed up to race for Tri-Alliance, but we're sure there are more!
Don't forget....all annual members are entitled to a discounted race entry.
Just select "TRI-ALLIANCE" as your club when entering and hit "JOIN".  It will prompt you for a password, which you can get by choosing "Click here to request it".  It gets sent to us to approve, you'll receive an email with the code and voila!

This process is what provides you with the 20% disc.  Please do not select "continue and join this squad later".  The discount cannot be applied retrospectively, so not following this process will result in you paying a full-priced entry.

We’re looking forward to supporting you on race day

Happy Helpers Needed

The future stars of our crazy sport will again be getting amongst it this Sunday morning with the Carman's Tri Kids race.  We're looking for some friendly faces to come and give these little ones a hand.  It's super easy, they just need help with:
* lining up in their AGs
* walking to the start line
* being pointed in the right direction
* putting on tops, shorts, shoes (after the swim)
* racking and moving bikes
* encouragement to keep going
* smiles for miles and high 5s all round!
Meet at the TA Tent at 6:45am for briefing in bike compound at 7am.  The more the merrier.  Let's get around these gems of the sport!

You’re just in time for the start of the season and we guarantee you will get extra cheers…so come on, don’t be like some people at Challenge Shepp in non-TA suits who only got cheers once they were 200m down the road and we’d finally realised we knew them (we tried our best, I promise!)…no, don’t be like them, be more like Dan!

SWIM SQUAD SESSIONS

Which One is Best For Me?

We have a great swim program, with multiple sessions available to all athletes.  Due to the popularity and lane availability at venues, we need to ensure we have all athletes swimming at the time and venue that is best suited to their needs.  Therefore, we thought it was a good time to revisit our swim squad criteria to help athletes grade themselves into the correct ability groups, encourage them to learn the developmental continuum of swim levels and understand why/what will best benefit them as an athlete in their progression to improve.  Please take the time to review these, as well as our Pool Swimming Etiquette guide.  From beginners to our advanced athletes, we want to ensure every swimmer has a great swim, maintains their confidence and correct technique.  So do your best to observe and follow the pool rules.

WIND TRAINER SESSIONS

wind-trainer-skewer-2
Let's Get Organised

Friendly reminder, windtrainer sessions are very busy! Firstly, you need to get there in plenty of time to set up and be ready to ride at 6.15pm. Secondly, due to high numbers, there are not always enough windtrainers to go around. Athletes who have their own windtrainer are encouraged to bring them along to sessions and if you have been thinking about getting one, now might be the time to do it! If you’re looking for a secondhand windtrainer or if you have any questions, send an email to [email protected]

We also have a whole bunch of NEW skewers (on order - we sold out too quickly so be patient while the new ones come in) - for sale only.  Existing athletes need to ensure they have the correct skewer to attend wind trainer sessions going forward.  You can purchase these from us at session with cash or card, or you can pre-purchase on the Tri Shop website prior to the session commencing.  Cost $10.

"I suppose most of you know I’m a dentist.  Never really pushed the point but I’ve been doing this for about 37 years.  What’s bad about this is that I’ve been doing this for 37 years!  What’s good about it is I have seen what happens to people’s oral health over a long period of time, and under a wide variety of circumstances.  So...what's this got to do with triathlon?
