coaching-autumn-nights

Oh boy…it’s never a good thing when you must start your introduction with an apology.  But alas…. I made a mistake!  My sincere apologies for any inconvenience I caused on Monday night to those athletes heading to MSAC. Unfortunately, your swim session could not go ahead due to a major swim comp taking place and I did not get this communication out to everyone in time.  I hope it wasn’t too much of a hassle and I’m happy to hear ALL about it if you feel the need to offload!

Timely reminder to be following the Tri-Alliance VIC Facebook page, where all last-minute communication is shared.  Details below on how to ensure you don’t miss out!

But really, there should only be one thing on your mind right now and that’s….L.O.R.N.E….C.A.M.P!  Yep…time to kick start the Winter campaign and have a weekend getaway with friends!  One of the best things you can do this winter is to get strong!  And one of the best ways to do it is with an intensive hit-out at a camp.  You get to surround yourself with like-minded people, live and train like a pro and forget about all the other worries of the world while you eat, sleep, train, repeat (sounds like Ironman)!  We have a ball each year and you come away with new fitness, new strength, new experiences and new friends!  You must read our Ambassador’s recap and hear about what you’ll be missing if you don’t book now #DontGetFOMO

~ Caveat: if we don't reach minimum numbers we cannot proceed with camp (insert sad face).  If you haven't done so already, get on to booking in so we can make the final call ~

Speaking about FOMO, this is one thing you should get FOMO about and that is missing out on the right training!  Now is the time to ensure you are setting yourself up for success by being on the right program.  No more dabbling around in a bit of this and a bit of that.  The guidelines are clear as to what you should be doing, so read on to make sure you are following the right crowd.

We had a successful launch into our base/technique run sessions last week, so let’s keep that momentum going.   These sessions are great for breaking down your stride, working on your technique and building strength from the ground up.  They are for ALL athletes. Thursday night runs are happening at both The Tan and in Essendon and will follow the same training block and program details.  Sunday’s run session this week will once again be from Fairfield Park Boat House. The perfect location to tick off the Sunday Runday box.

If you have been thinking about heading to Shepparton for one of the best regional races going around, then the Challenge 2022 entries have opened.  And right now, Tri-Alliance athletes can get an Opening Special price plus our squad discount, making it the lowest possible entry going around.

And adding to the bargain Giant Trinity TT bike for sale, there is now a Giant Propel up for offer.  If you’re in the market for an upgrade, check out both these bikes below.

PROGRAMS

Building Towards YOUR Goal

Now is a good time to make sure you are on the right path to your goal.  There’s no point following the crowd, if the crowd aren’t going to the same place you are!  For all those athletes gearing themselves up for Port Mac, IM Melb 70.3 or Busso, your build has started.  That means you should be on a Long Course program from now.  Those athletes gearing up for the 2XU Series, Noosa or any Sprint and Olympic distance races should be on Short Course programs.

This also has a direct impact on Saturday rides. You need to be riding the appropriate distances, with the same focus and with the right group.  LC riders only should be leaving at 6am and SC riders at 7am.

If you’re unsure, need a hand with switching over or want a chat about your goals, please get in touch with the coaches and will get you on the right path!

RUNNING SESSIONS

Fairfield Run Group
Two Sessions - Three Locations!

In case you haven't heard, it’s time to kick start our Thursday night run sessions.  Our winter run sessions are great for breaking down your stride, working on your technique and building strength from the ground up.  These sessions are for ALL athletes and will include technique, hills and interval running.

We will have two options.  Both sessions will have the same focus and follow the same training block and program details.

One will be held at The Tan, a track around the around King's Domain and the Botanic Gardens.  We meet at 6:10pm next to the trough, opposite the Swan Street Bridge (you can also Google “Pillars of Wisdom” and it’s close to there).  Be ready to start the warm up at 6:15pm, otherwise you may miss the group.  It’s a good idea to bring appropriate layers as it can get quite chilly.

The other will be held northside by The General.  You can meet at the Essendon Rowing Club (Car Park) at 6:10pm for a 6:15pm start on a Thursday night, for a run session along the Maribyrnong River.

Everyone knows Sunday is Runday, and it's much easier (and more fun) to tick this off with your favourite training buddies.

This Sunday you can meet at the Fairfield Park Boathouse (Car Park) by 8:00am for a long run session. Come to these run sessions prepared for technique, functional strength and stretching activities....and the dulcet tones of The General!

Please see the timetable for further info, including meeting points.

COMMUNICATION

Tri-Alliance-Vic-FB
Great Communication Begins With Connection

I bet we've all had one of those moments when you feel like everyone else knows what's going on and you're like...ah...what the?  Or when you turn up for something, only to realise you've missed the memo that the meeting point/start time/venue/etc has been changed.

And we've had times (Monday night was a great example), when session details need to change at the last minute and we need to communicate this with you ASAP.

Well, all we can say is GET CONNECTED.  If you are not following the Tri-Alliance Vic Facebook page, then you are missing out.  We will usually use this avenue for any immediate communication, so it is a good idea to not only like the page but to receive notifications as we post.

Do this by adjusting your notification settings under "Following" on our FB page (highly recommended).  You should also follow the Tri-Alliance Instagram page and of course, be signed up to receive our newsletter each week!

Be connected to be in the know.

HELPING VICTORIA STAY SAFE

tri-alliance-qr-scan-code
Victorian Government QR Code Service

Record keeping continues to be an important tool for helping Victoria stay safe and stay open.  All our athletes are scanned into each session by our coaches, and it is important to touch base with the team to ensure this has happened, particularly if you arrive late.

From the beginning of May, all venues and facilities are required to use The Victorian Government QR Code Service for record keeping.  This has been occurring at MSAC for some time and we ask all athletes to continue to ensure they are following this process each time they visit.

We have also obtained a Tri-Alliance QR Code (see above) for other sessions that will be made available for scanning.  Keeping records is to help with any future contact tracing that may be necessary in slowing the spread of COVID-19. You are only providing your name and a contact phone number, and records will be destroyed after 28 days, once the potential need for contact tracing has passed.

For more information on checking in with QR codes, please visit https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/QR-code-check-in
