Hey Team, welcome to Build Week #2. It’s that part of the cycle when you have to keep the momentum and commit to getting through so you can capitalise on all the hard work you’ve already put in. Don’t stop now!
Tell you what else is a good motivator to keep going…. the prospect that racing isn’t too far around the corner! Nothing like a looming deadline of a race start to get the butterflies churning. I mean, if they are planning on having 10,000 people at the Melbourne Cup, surely we’re thinking we can have a couple of thousand at a local triathlon, right? Well, there’s no point in sitting around wondering. My philosophy is: Do today what others aren’t, so that when the time comes, I can do what others can’t. Get my drift? Prepare yourself now with the goal date in mind. There’s only 48 days between now and the date of Race #1. That’s 6 weeks and 6 days. Plenty of time to get yourself race ready. Just don’t let another week pass you by!
And it looks like the 70% and 80% DD dates are coming closer and closer. That means back to squad training and back in the pool! Don't forget that all athletes will need to show their vaccine certificate for entry to MSAC and we will have to get athletes to update their athlete profile accordingly. Stay tuned for details of how to do this.
Speaking of passing you by, the current Garmin Specials end on Wednesday. If you’re looking to upgrade jump in quick. It’s all about multisports watches. There are three different ranges, with several models so it's best you read all the details below.
Thanks to those athletes who have already responded to our EOI for a simulated long course event. At this stage, the numbers are quite low, so we wouldn’t be able to proceed. We’re doing one final call to see if there’s anyone other LC athletes interested. I’ll just clarify a few good questions we’ve had during the week: - If you are running Melb Marathon the following weekend, you will only be prescribed a 25km easy run, as would be programmed for your taper.
- We understand many athletes do not want to complete their first full distance in a simulation, that’s why we suggested the mixed distances.
- Ollie is recommending a combination of swim (2-3kms) / bike (130-150kms / run (25-35kms).
- Based out of Elwood, swim/bike transition can easily be completed at your car. Then bike/run transition again at your car to keep your belongings safe. Run will head down to Albert Park Lake, to complete laps and return to Elwood. This will allow support crew to provide aid stations around the lake and be roaming on bikes to support your entire run.
If you are interested, please fill in the form asap, so we can begin preparations.
A reminder that it’s time to start thinking about our return to squad sessions at Elwood, and this reminds us that our friends at Elwood Life Saving Club also need our support. Their 2021/22 memberships are currently open for registration and renewal. ELSC do fantastic work for the community, both local and triathlon. That is why we encourage all our athletes to become ELSC members.
An important update we recently saw from Sports Integrity Australia, was the addition of Cortisone Injections to the prohibited substances list. These are banned in competition, which begins at 11:59pm the day before your event and lasts throughout its duration. However, did you know that a cortisone injection has a ‘wash out’ period? In some instances, this is 3-5 days and in other instances it can be as long as 60 days! SIA are not advising that athletes neglect treatment, rather that you are informed. The key here is to have a chat with your medical team prior to any treatment. There is a great athlete flyer linked below for you to read all the info. Be in control.
Summing up this week’s newsletter with a little lol moment. I saw this on social media over the weekend and can total relate. I know I’m not alone. So, make sure you have a read (and a laugh) at the Roadmap Out of Activewear guide!
