Guess what week it is…..Yup, it’s Race Week, again! But this one always feels good. We know Elwood like the backs of our hands, the weather is looking good (or at least not duathlon-like) and athletes are well and truly into the swing of racing. Good luck to all our crew going around on Sunday. Whether it’s aiming for a new high, challenging yourself with Age Group ITU World Championship Qualifying points and the Australian Sprint Championship or simply just getting out there, we are backing each and every one of you.
We were also thrilled to hear about those who were part of The Federation University Road National cycling festival, last week. Shoutout to Rach and Scotty in the Grand Fondo, Chloe who podiumed in the 11km TT and the 30km road race, Monty who also smacked out the 11km TT and 30km road race, and Juliet for her 120 Team TT. We’ve heard Mount Buninyong is just as brutal as it looks on TV!!!
Couple of quick training updates…
MSAC swim sessions are going strong, with bumper attendance, despite the later start times. We will let you know if anything changes, but for now we continue with 7pm Mon/Wed and 6am Fri. Also note, that masks need to be worn inside MSAC and also whilst walking through the venue, so ensure you have one with you.
Don’t forget that on Recovery Weeks there are no coached Tuesday morning runs or Thursday Hot Laps. This is particularly for Short Course Athletes - Due to the unusual race schedule this season, recovery weeks are not as clear cut as they used to be, with some athletes needing to push through. If it’s on your program, then you follow what’s prescribed, but there won’t necessarily be a timetabled session or coaches at Albert Park Lake. Check online if you are unsure.
And finally, if you are part of the Hot Laps development group with Coaches Steph and Gaz, you will receive an email each week confirming if it is on and with details about the session. If you haven’t registered your Expression of Interest, then the coaches aren’t expecting you. Please contact Steph ASAP if you have any questions ([email protected]), but not for tomorrow…it is too late!
Quick grumble from the Head Coach – there have been waaaay too many athletes turning up to early ride sessions unprepared lately. What does The General say about Piss Poor Preparation?!?!? Our ride policy has always been that everyone is wearing a TA top (jersey or vest) on the outside, so the group is easily identifiable and to keep everyone safe. Equally, you should have both front and rear lights (working!) if you are riding in our group sessions. We cannot stress the importance of this enough. Don’t be ‘that’ guy that gets turned away and is unable to ride because you are not prepared.
To wrap up, this bumper edition is all about race prep this week. From entries, to trisuits, to laces now on the TriShop and the important Kids race callout…we have it all in one place so it’s easy to find. Keep scrolling on and we look forward to supporting all of you for the upcoming races, SC this weekend and LC next weekend!
