Tri-Alliance Update | 2020 Season Planning

Hi Team,

I am writing to you during a time of uncertainty, a time of much change and a time of adjustment to the way we all go about our daily lives.  Not to mention, that these changes are taking place regularly and rapidly.

I want to let you know that first and foremost, Tri-Alliance is here for you; today, tomorrow and going forward.  We have always risen to tough occasions over our 20 years, and this is just another challenge to rise to.  We are very lucky in the nature of the sport we are in, that we can continue to work on our health and fitness, in several different scenarios.

So With the Season Over, What Now?

With the majority of events now either cancelled or rescheduled until October/November, it has changed the landscape and planning for this year.  But the year is not over, and the fitness you have built is not wasted.  We always talk to you about training age and training layers, so your work so far is not in vain.  If anything, you are in a great position to rest, recover, reset, work from the ground up and continue to build your engines during a true off-season, to be fully prepared to hit the track running when races are back on the agenda.  If you put things into perspective, it brings everything forward by a month, so really this is an opportunity to begin our technique block a bit earlier and also look at how we address Recovery Month (refer to our Training Phases).

Here is how we intend move forward.

~ Business as usual ~

Today brought with it a lot of clarity.  The government has outlined several key points, mostly significantly, that they have rightly banned non-essential indoor groups of more than 100 people.  Meaning, we can still go ahead with our training groups.

We have also been reassured that MSAC will remain open to Tri-Alliance squad sessions, even if the public is no longer allowed access.  I spent today working with the MSAC Office to sure up our bookings for April through to June.  Of course, this will be a team effort to ensure the current practices of social distancing, hygiene and most importantly, separating yourself from the squad if you have any remote contact with a COVID-19 case or experience any symptoms, apply swiftly and consistently.

We will also continue the remainder of our timetable, with exception to our wind trainer sessions, which will be modified to an outdoor environment, with a minimum of 2m space between participants.

~ New in CoachingMate ~

Strength programs for Winter, will roll out over the CoachingMate app, where you can follow strength-based sessions easily from home.  Dry-land swim-specific sessions will be re-introduced, as an integral part of you program.

~ Going Solo Online ~

We have been working hard to develop further systems to cater for a total shutdown, however we seem to be far from that.  We will create a NEW membership option, for both long and short course athletes, who wish to remain training but without the squad environment. This new membership will remain available while we transition through this period.

How does this work?  All programmed athletes will have the option to join Google Hangout, by right clicking the session on your CoachingMate app.  This allows you to chat to the coach (me) during the scheduled training time.

So, if you are thinking of dropping off and falling into a ball of depression because the world is coming to an end, think again! Why don’t you get back on the horse and focus on building the vital layers of fitness and strength that our winter training program is renowned for.  Not to mention, keeping your health and well being in check with some important physical activity, social interaction in a time of increased isolation and overall joy during this tough period.

If you quit now…you’ll end up right back where you first began.

And when you first began, you were desperate to be where you are now.

Right now.

So keep going!

Stay tuned for additional information in the newsletter coming out shortly.
